Tune-ups and Overhauls

What is the difference between a tune-up and an overhaul and when should they be performed? A tune-up should be performed once a year and possibly twice if you have been riding more than 2500 miles in 6 months or less. An overhaul should be performed every two years or if your bike has been ridden in extreme weather conditions.

A basic tune-up is $60.00 and includes derailleur and brake adjustments, lube chain, air up tires and tighten stem and crank bolts. Our tune-up includes simple wheel true; drivetrain clean and lube; adjust brakes, derailleurs, headset and hubs; torque all bolts to spec; wipe down frame and test ride the bike. Paragon's charge for all this is $110.00. Any parts needed will cost additional.

An overhaul includes having the bike taken down to the bare frame, all parts cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, frame cleaned, wheels trued, all bearings checked and greased as needed, rebuild the bike with new cables and housing included. Paragon's charge for all this is $250.00. If you had your bike for awhile, you do not notice the gradual changes to performance over time and having an overhaul done will make you notice a big difference in the quality of ride that you have missed.

Tire and tube replacement

Tire and tube replacement is what bike shops do the most of. Our charge to replace either a tire, tube or both on the same wheel is $10.00. Tubes will cost between $6.95 for a standard tube to $19.95 for a thorn resistant tube. Tires will start at $16.95 for a small kids bike tire and go up from there. Our very nominal labor charge of $10.00 for this service is very reasonable based on our rent, equipment costs, and time for us to perform this service.
